- Most everybody has gone to some kind of ward system. As cities have evolved...[they]have gone to wards because theyre more efficient and work better. There are fewer layers between people and government
The Wright Place canvass yesterday went GREAT! By the time we left, doors and mailboxes throughout the community were plastered with huge "Vote Yes For Wards" signs, and the reaction was electric. This is a community where people actually talk to their neighbors (imagine that!), so word-of-mouth is extremely important.
I knew we had succeeded towards the end when I asked one lady walking around if she was registered to vote. She enthusiastically responded "Yes I am! I saw all those signs and my friend was telling me about it, and I'm definitely going to vote yes! Do you have any of those signs left?".
This really demonstrates the power of the canvass-- it took four people less than 3 hours to get an entire community talking about wards. City Hall can do a lot with glossy mailers and shifty "push-poll" techniques, but at the end of the day, nothing can top the power of people talking to each other.
