3/10/2010 NEW BRUNSWICK -- New Brunswick Mayor James Cahill announced today he is seeking the Democratic Party nomination to run for a sixth term.
"In the next four years, we must continue to pursue our vision of a modern urban center that competes and thrives in the global economy of the 21st century," Cahill said in the statement.
Cahill ran for re-election in 2006; his only opponent was an independent.
Long-time council members Joseph Egan and Blanquita Valenti announced they will not seek new terms.
Egan, who last November won re-election to the 17th District Assembly seat, has served on the council since 1982.
Valenti, who is running for re-election as county freeholder, has served on the city council since 1990.
